Mosstika: Living Wall

Mosstika is the studio of Edina Tokodi a Hungarian artist living and working in Brooklyn, New York who creates artwork from plants. As the name suggests Mosstika works with the green plant material known as moss.  Her latest project moves in a new direction, integrating a wood frame and irrigation system to create a living wall. The project was installed in brooklyn earlier this year and features a large wooden frame that is layered over a field of green succulent plants.

Landscape As...

Landscape as a Vision...

Landscape as a vision is the formation of a mental image.  But how are metal images or even knowledge formed within us? The epistemological theory behind this is that individuals are born without a build in mental concept and that our knowledge is build through personal experience and perception. The experience of man in land is the vision which links a thought to paper. This then expressed through a series of lines, shapes and different forms. It also offers insight into how we can look at these landscapes understand their connection with the lives of people whom create them, and maintain them. This coordination of life and land provides a framework for discussion of vision and landscape. Visual analysis of the land develops layers of history which we encounter and develop upon through using the lens of a camera to explore something beyond of what we see with our eyes. The perceptual experience of seeing sparks thoughts and ideas of how landscape can be developed through an individual vision. ‘The common lesson is that we must endeavour to see the landscape around us, and what we see inevitably influences our efforts to shape it.’ [1]
